Frequently Asked Questions - Fall Ball 2024

What is Fall Ball?
The Fall Ball season is run and organized by NorCal Girls Softball. There are over 20 local leagues (Greater Sacramento area) that participate in the Fall Ball schedule. Each league enters their teams, they participate in an opening seeding tournament, then play an 8 week season, followed by a closing tournament.

What is the cost to play?
Registration fees are $245 for the Fall Season.

What is covered by the Registration Fee?
Registration helps cover the uniform (jersey), a basic picture package, insurance, City of Roseville Field use fees, registration with USA Softball, umpire fees, field equipment and more.

Do I need experience to play?
No experience is needed to participate. This is a recreational league program but it is typically a bit more competitive than the traditional spring rec season since we are competing against other leagues.

Who can participate?
The number of teams is limited for the fall ball season because there are less fields available due to soccer and shared spaces. Players will be accepted on a first come first serve basis. Once the max number of players is met, players will be placed on a waitlist.

What birth years can play?

Age divisions are set by USA Softball. The division a player will play in is determined by their age as of August 31st prior to the calendar year for which they are signing up to play. A player’s age, as of August 31, 2024, determines the age at which the player is eligible to play for the Fall, Spring, and Summer seasons:

  • 8-Under Age Classification: A player whose 9th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.
  • 10-Under Age Classification: A player whose 11th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.
  • 12-Under Age Classification: A player whose 13th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.
  • 14-Under Age Classification: A player whose 15th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.
  • 16-Under Age Classification: A player whose 17th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.
  • 18-Under Age Classification: A player whose 19th birthday is prior to September 1, 2024 is INELIGIBLE.

What is the timeframe of the season?

August 12 - November3

When/where will practices be held?
Teams typically practice 1-2 times a week. Coaches can work with the league scheduler to select time slots and field preferences. Our league can only practice at the fields allocated to us by the City of Roseville and those can change from season to season.

When/where will games be played?
The opening and closing tournaments will have games spread out over Saturday and Sunday. However during the season in between, the games will be played on Sunday’s only to allow players to play soccer or other sports simultaneously. These games are typically played at 11am, 1pm or 3pm and teams typically play two games each Sunday. Each league participating in Fall Ball both will host games and travel to other leagues during the course of the season. You have the potential of traveling to league such as Lincoln, Rocklin, Rancho Cordova, Elk Grove, Woodland, Davis, El Dorado Hills, etc.

How are teams formed?
Team formation for the fall season is done by the Board with Coach requests taken into consideration. Coaches shall submit a list of players/coaches they are requesting for the team by July 1. Every attempt will be made to ensure that the requests are accommodated. Only players that are signed up are eligible to be placed to teams and it is first come, first serve until the max number of players is met. The Chief Player Agent in partnership with the division player agent will place unpaired players to teams to fill the teams as necessary.

Can I Request a Coach?
Players can request a preferred coach during the registration process and the board will work to try to place that player on the requested team if there is room available.

My requested coach didn't request me and their team is full. What happens to me?
As long as you signed up and are not on a waitlist, you will be placed on a team that has available spots.

Why Are Coaches Not Announced Prior to Player Registration Opening?
The Fall Ball season is in high demand and we are limited to the number of teams we can field based off of field allocations given to us by the City for the fall season. Without knowing the enrollment numbers per division, it is impossible to promise coaches they will be given a team. There may be situations in which we have to adjust division team allocations based off the player enrollment.

What Age Division should my player participate in?
Age divisions are set by USA Softball. The division a player will play in is determined by their age as of August 31st prior to the calendar year for which they are signing up to play.

What are families required to provide for uniforms?
Players are responsible for providing a minimum of their own black softball pants, softball glove and cleats.  No metal spikes are allowed.  Players may purchase equipment such as a helmet or bat for their own use.

Do you need to be a resident of Roseville to register?
Players that live or go to school in Roseville or Antelope are eligible for participation.

Do I need to pay a deposit for volunteer hours?
No.  Unlike many other leagues, you are not required to volunteer or pay a deposit to ensure completion of volunteer hours, but RGS is run by volunteers and we would love your help in making our League a success for the girls.  Please reach out to our board for ways you can contribute in various ways to the organization.

When is the deadline for refunds?
Players may drop with a refund if a written request is submitted on or before July 21. There will be no refunds after this date.

Who can I contact if I have additional questions?
Please reach out to the player agent of your age division or use the contact us feature of this website.
